Interested in property? As a landlord, hands-off investor or maybe even a property sourcer? Then you’ll find that networking can be crucial to success.
Why? Well, for starters, it’s a way of keeping abreast of developments in the industry. There have certainly been many legislative and tax changes in recent years.
But networking is also a means of getting to know and understanding fellow property enthusiasts. Nothing beats a face-to-face meeting for establishing long-term relationships. In meeting regularly with other investors, landlords and interested parties you can motivate, inform and help each other out with referrals.
And, as the saying goes, there is definitely safety in numbers too, in the sense a group is more difficult to bully than an individual. Just ask the National Landlords Association. The lobbying body regularly meets with government members on a legislative level to discuss changes within the sector.
Where to find networking opportunities
So now that we’ve established networking is essential for both seasoned investors and property enthusiasts looking to dip their toe in the sector, what’s the best way to go about it?
There’s two main ways. One is to attend monthly or quarterly meet ups in your area, and the other is to make sure you get to the big conferences held throughout the UK. Two big conferences coming up in a few weeks are A Place In the Sun Live at Glasgow’s SECC on October 27th-28th and The Luxury Property Show on November 1st and 2nd.
Both conferences are mainly focused on promoting properties abroad, but we always think it’s good to keep an eye on international markets and to see how those romantic chateaux, golf villas and lakeside retreats compare with UK properties. You’ll still pick up plenty of tips while you’re there.
In terms of UK-focused networking events, we have our own right here at Sourced. In fact the next Sourced Investor Night (SIN) here in Liverpool is on October 25th, from 7pm to 9pm at Revolution Liverpool, Unit 4M, Atlantic Pavilion Albert Dock.
